Work: Inherit the Night, 2016/7, Digital Inkjet Prints
As the office high-flyers in the City leave their towers of glass, their buildings also become host to the the lower-income workers. These workers then have to prepare the buildings and for the inevitable return the next day. But, seen surreptitiously through the glass that is the signature of the buildings, is the viewer glimpsing the low-income workers or the office high-flyers as the darkness and reflections elide distinctions?
Iain works with the camera in digital and analogue formats, eschewing overt use of post-production in order to capture the decisive moment, the hidden detail and the societal incongruity in the urban world. His viewpoint is objective, occasionally pointing up the absurdities of received wisdoms. He urges the viewer to take a nuanced view of societal and political issues contrary to the shrill dichotomies of the tabloid world view. Iain is currently undertaking a BA in Photography at the University of Westminster.
